Highland Dance and Teaching
My name is Kathryn Campbell Giebelhaus.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Kathryn Campbell Giebelhaus, Owner/Director of KCSHD, began Highland dancing at the age 5 years and over 12 years competed extensively across Canada, the U.S., and Scotland. After earning her Associate Teachers Certificate with the British Association of Teachers of Dance (BATD), she taught in Victoria, B.C., for seven years.
In 1983, she moved to Alberta, graduating from the University of Alberta Hospital School of Nursing in 1986. She opened her St. Albert dance school in 1993 after earning her Members Teachers Certificate in the Highland Branch of BATD. Later achievements include a Scottish National Branch Certificate (2009), Highland Branch Fellowship (2011), achieved the full Adjudicator panel level of the Royal Scottish Official Board of Highland Dance (RSOBHD) (2011), and the honour of Life Membership with BATD (2015).

Our Vision
To instill the love of dance and develop dancers to reach their greatest potential.
Our Mission
To promote and nurture the dancers’ physical, emotional, and psychological development through the teaching of Highland dance.
We are proud recipients of the
BATD Sadie Simpson
North American Scholarship
Awards Won
Our dancers have earned top honors, including a Canadian Championship title and a top 6 placing at the World Championships. Over the past 30 years, many have represented Alberta at the Canadian Championships and have won numerous awards in competitions across Canada, the U.S., and Scotland. Further, dancers have taken top awards at the BATD Sadie Simpson North American Scholarship Events throughout the years.
Our Students
Our teaching model is grounded in positive reinforcement, acknowledging good technique, attitude and sportsmanship, while providing constructive feedback where there is room for improvement. We care for the whole person as a dancer, and as such, we support the unique abilities of each individual and their progress. Additionally, our teaching encompasses striving for excellence, mental health awareness, nutrition, and sports psychology.
Beyond the studio, the KCSHD dancers share the love of dance performing at seniors’ residences, festivals, trade shows, and local events. Highlights include Military Tattoos (worldwide), Christmas concerts, Robbie Burns Celebrations, Concerts in the Park, Edmonton Oil Kings intermissions, and collaborations with the Celtic Rock Band, CFI.
